KLM Surprise giving gifts checking in with Foursquare. Collecting data on customer from LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook so they can personalize the gifts.

This is brilliant marketing and a way to collect more data on their customers, although they already have all your personal details so they don't really need it for data mining purposes as they could get this in a different way.

This article in Dutch describes the research that ING and Dutch entrepreneur group de Zaak, which I believe is heavily sponsored by the ING, did in the Netherlands under entrepreneurs.

It shows most of the online networkers use LinkedIn (91%) for their business networking, although Facebook (40%), Twitter (34%) and MySpace (30%) lag behind it shows that they are also contributing also.

60% of entrepreneurs who network traditionally, said their sales increased because of their networking activities. They calculate this as a 12.5% revenue increase. 20% of online networkers say that turnover has also increased by nearly 9%.

By chance I found this showcase of Twitter applications using OAuth for authentication. A quick glance at the list of 380+ applications shows me many applications I know and many more I don't. Quite interesting.
