VLC includes a web interface, which you can enable to access your VLC player from a web browser, controlling playback from another device – particularly useful for a media center PC. VLC also offers a mobile web interface for smartphones.

The web interface is turned off and locked down by default – you have to edit the web server’s .hosts file or VLC will disallow all incoming connections from other devices.

Android: Touchscreen keyboards, or even miniature ones, are not necessarily the ideal surface for getting things done. A physical keyboard and computer are just simply faster for many tasks, but there are a number of things they can't do that a mobile phone or tablet can. AirDroid bridges the gap by allowing you to control your device from pretty much any modern web browser.

When you think of faked or edited screenshots, programs like Photoshop probably pop into your mind. I’ve never been very creative when it comes to design and graphical work, so that’s nearly out of the question for me. If you’re trying to swap faces in a picture, you’ll need to learn how to use programs like that. If you’re trying to do something like change the text in a Facebook conversation, there’s no need. All you need is Firebug and a PrtScrn key.

Firebug is available for every major browser: IE6+, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome. In this example, I’ll be running you through a tutorial on how to use it for its native browser, Firefox. What is Firebug though? Firebug is a browser add-on that allows you to edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. To manipulate webpages as I’m going to show you today, you won’t need to know any of those languages.

Flipboard, a customized news reader that was available exclusively for iOS devices for a long time, has now made its official debut on the Android Market. This is not the first time we have heard of Flipboard for Android: The app was previously made available exclusively for the new Galaxy S III, but now you can enjoy it on a variety of other devices. This announcement comes hot on the heels of Google+ integration for Flipboard, making Flipboard into a serious competitor for Google’s own Currents news-reader app.

Microsoft released a revamped SkyDrive the day before Google Drive launched, but Google Drive stole its thunder. Nevertheless, SkyDrive is now a compelling product, particularly for people into Microsoft’s ecosystem of Office web apps, Windows Phone, and Windows 8, where it’s built into Metro by default.

Like Google with Google Drive, Microsoft’s new SkyDrive product imitates the magic folder pioneered by Dropbox.

Google Drive is the evolution of Google Docs, which already allowed you to upload any file – Google Drive bumps the storage space up from 1 GB to 5 GB, offers desktop sync clients, and provides a new web interface and APIs for web app developers.

Google Drive is a serious entry from Google, not just an afterthought like the upload-any-file option was in Google Docs.

Dropbox introduced cloud storage to the masses, with its simple approach to cloud storage and synchronization – a single magic folder that follows you everywhere. Dropbox deserves credit for being a pioneer in this space and the new Google Drive and SkyDrive both build on the foundation that Dropbox laid.

Dropbox doesn’t have strong integration with any ecosystems – which can be a good thing, as it is an ecosystem-agnostic approach that isn’t tied to Google, Microsoft, Apple, or any other company’s platform.

So what can you expect from InSync these days? Quite simply, it’s a Google Drive utility for more professional and power users. If you use Google Drive (or Google Docs) excessively, or are looking for more functionality, this tool is for you.

Among other things it adds external hard drive support, integration with multiple Google accounts, and additional system integration. Best of all, it’s available for Mac OS X and Windows computers, and a Linux version is in the pipeline, as are several mobile applications
