Julie Lindsay created this social network for parents and students to learn about digital citizenship. I'll be adding this resource to my Internet Awareness workshops: "Learn about today's social landscape, discover the pressing need for digital citizenship, and act to become better digital citizens."

Here's a free and add free alternative to Ning for creating your own social network. I only poked around but it looks easy and feature rich. And this is a bonus: "GROU.PS is free! You pay nothing. Plus, we don't force you to show your community our brand and/or our ads unless your storage needs exceed 3GB." Thanks to Kevin Jarret for sharing this on twitter.

Here's another site sponsored by Waste Management: "Greenopolis is a social networking site that develops online relations between everyday people, communities, organizations, schools and businesses. As an environmentally-focused social networking site, Greenopolis was created to engage users on green issues so that they might learn, explore and participate in an open dialogue about the present and future of our environment."

I debated starting my own Ning or Google Group for workshop attendees, but figure it will be better for them to join an established network, so I've created a group in Classroom 2.0.

Many edubloggers linked to this and discussed it. I'm saving it for my reference, too... for my next Internet Awareness workshop. It's Terry Freedman on teen social networking.
