According to a report by China National Radio, China Telecom announced on its official website today that it will "actively cooperate" with an investigation by China's National Development Reform Commission (NDRC) into monopoly practices in the telecoms sector, which is dominated by China Telecom and China Unicom.

Writing on his QQ blog late last year, Si Weijiang (斯伟江) addressed tense relations between the United States and China on the economic and security fronts through the metaphor of (acrimonious) matrimony. The piece is an interesting Chinese read. Si concludes: "Divorce doesn't necessarily have to turn to fighting. The prerequisite of fighting is that China has the possibility of victory, and there aren't yet signs of this possibility. Therefore, the probability of divorce is high, and this will be apparent in the next 10 years. As for fighting, in the short term this isn't possible, because no hope can be seen for victory."
