Boatner said departments should have social media policies in place, as IBM does, when posting. Schmidt said posts should be screened by a public affairs team if possible. Williams added that it’s also important to have a disclaimer somewhere on a profile page so residents understand that not all content comes directly from departments — such as reply posts or discussions from outside contributors that could contain misinformation.

Alex Howard wrote Over the past several years, I've had an unusually good opportunity to chronicle what's been happening at the intersection of technology, government and society as the Washington Correspondent for O'Reilly Media. More recently, I've been researching networked transparency and data-driven journalism at Harvard and Columbia. In this column, I plan to share what I've seen and learned, what i think matters today, and the trends I think are important to watch as we move further into the future. If you've read my work, you know that I'm intensely interested in many subjects, from health care to artificial intelligence to finance to stimulating innovation.

time for round two for Gov 2.0 LA. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Gov 2.0 LA, it is a hybrid conference that stimulates the brain and positions people to have actual time to talk to each other. bridging digital diplomacy, social media, entrepreneurship, mobile and mapping and reaching into the crossover into citizen engagement tools. Gov 2.0 LA founded by Alan Silberberg had an amazing first year with hundreds of people showing up throughout the 2 day weekend event. They brought in an amazing group of speakers some of which included people like, Bill Grundfest, the Golden Globe Winning Producer and Creator of “Mad About You”, Craig Newmark the founder of Craigslist, Cory Ondrejka Co-Founder of Second Life, and many more. And this year there is no shortage of awesome speakers that are going to be in attendance.

Visual and Digitisation Services Team at the Powerhouse Museum that includes: Photography, The Image Resource Centre, The Photo Library and Rights and Permissions and Audio Visuals. We are part of the larger Digital Social & Emerging Technologies group at the Museum. I am responsible for managing the digital collections to the highest standard whilst coordinating photographic and AV projects for exhibitions, publications, events and the website. I manage a blog for the Museum called Photo of the Day as well as manage the Museum’s Flickr accounts and groups.
• How have you been implementing Web 2.0 tools within your organisation?
"My teams have been using social media platforms such as Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo for a while now and run a number of public facing blogs, through Wordpress, here at the Museum in an attempt to engage with our audiences in new ways, start conversations and share the stories about what our audience are doing with our collections."
