NYX Snow Rose Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder ($7.99 for 0.21 oz.) is a very light, cool-toned beige with pink-to-lavender pearl that gave it more of a soft, frosted sheen. This was one of the more interesting shades (though the type of duochrome it had is something we have seen before), as it can really alter whatever it is layered over. On its own, the whiteness of the base color is rather apparent, so on my skin tone, it would be best when layered over another blush or highlighter. For someone very fair, it could definitely be worn more on its Continue Reading…

An 'extraordinary' vintage throughout the Côte d'Or, but the white wines are more uneven. Is Burgundy 2015 one to buy? William Kelley and Stephen Brook share their thoughts on the vintage...Burgundy 2015 vintage Chablis: 4.5/5Côte d'Or White: 3.5/5 Côte d'Or Red: 5/5 The 2015 vintage is an extraordinary one throughout the Côte d'Or. The red wines are truly great: rich, powerful and statuesque but almost always underpinned by juicy acidity. The distinctive characters of the region's diverse terroirs, which can be occluded by over-ripeness in warm years, are articulately expressed. Nor, despite its richness and amplitude, is this a facile vintage. These are wines for the long haul, with serious reserves of ripe tannins hidden behind their generous fruit: they will deserve patience – and if they shut down in bottle, they will demand it. Find our full Burgundy en primeur tasting notes on Decanter.com next week.  This first appeared in the February 2017 issue of Decanter. Subscr

Estee Lauder Lover's Blush Pure Color Envy Sculpting Blush ($34.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a soft, light-medium coral with warm undertones and a golden, satin shimmer. It had semi-sheer color payoff that was buildable to medium coverage. The Pure Color Envy Sculpting Blush formula is supposed to have an "ultra-silky" feel that gives "fresh" and "radiant" color to the cheeks, while the press release was more specific and stated that it should have "buildable dewy color that lasts all day." The texture was smooth but firm, so it took some prodding to get enough product to transfer on a brush Continue Reading…

Tarte Pillowtalk Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a light peach with a hint of pink paired with a flat, matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, which went on fairly evenly, but it had a little bit of streaking, even after it had finished drying. The texture was unforgiving when I smiled, with the color separating at my deepest lip lines. This shade lasted for four and a half hours before it had broken down so much at the center of the lips that reapplication would have been necessary to keep wearing Continue Reading…

There is no escaping the cheese culture as our students have access to invigorating cheese lectures. And as the festive party season is fast approaching, so is the quintessential tradition of indulging in wine with blue cheese until one might burst...Wine with Blue Cheese: Top matches Stilton – Tawny Port or an aged LBV Gorgonzola Dolce – Marsala Roquefort – Sauternes Cooked blue cheese – White Crozes-Hermitage Matching wine with Blue Cheese This type of cheese is on the up; a Norwegian blue cheese named Kraftkar just this month won the World Cheese Awards held in Spain's San Sebastian, organised by the UK's Guild of Fine Food. Below, Matthieu Longuère MS of Le Cordon Bleu London offers his advice on pairing blue cheese and wine.  What all blue cheeses have in common is the presence of a strain of penicillin mould which is introduced directly into the cheese curd before it is shaped. The cheese is then pierced with metallic spikes to allow air to permeate a
