Kevin: The title is pretty self-explanatory on this one. Publishers Lunch, a daily paid newsletter, did some reporting and research and found based on numbers from Amazon's Kindle forum that: "over half of reporting Kindle owners are 50 or older, and 70 percent are 40 or older". Joshua Benton at Nieman says after seeing these numbers, "It’s older folks — not the gadget crowd, not the young bookloving crowd, and not the mathematical intersect of the two." If Kindle readers are older, this is not going to capture the demographic that newspapers looking for new revenue streams are hoping for.

Suw: Amazon use their power to bully small publishers by removing one click buy buttons from the titles of those publishers who are not submitting to Amazon's demands. Disgraceful.

Suw: John Scalzi ruminates on the increases in sales of his books, after Tor released Old Man's War as a free ebook. He sees an interesting bump in sales, but is wary of attributing that to the ebook alone. Be interesting to see more figures in the future

Suw: Was it giving away the book for free, or Oprah's touch that increased sales of Suze Orman's book Women and Money? Going free for 33 hours certainly didn't hurt. Wonder what would have happened if they'd made it free, full stop.
