Slowly, one by one, over the past 50 years, almost every non-scientific myth about marijuana has been disproven.
First, it turned you into an axe murderer. Then people wised up that that was bullshit.
Then, it caused males to grow breasts. Then people wised up to that.
Then, it killed brain cells. People still believe this, but it's not actually true. (Alcohol does, most other drugs do not.)
Then, it was a gateway drug. But the gateway drugs for most people are actually alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, and prescriptions (prescription drug abuse VASTLY outnumbering street drug abuse).
Then, "oh, the smoke is so much worse than cigarette smoke because you breathe it in deeper", and other such associated bullshit.
Except a 20 year study now proves that wrong. For occasional users, anyway. For heavy users -- sometimes there are still problems. It's possible to overdo anything.
But the argument that marijuana can't be used as medicine because it's too dangerous to be smoked not only ignores the evidence in this study, but the fact that you don't have to smoke marijuana. You can vaporize or eat it! You can grow it in your house for free. That's a huge threat to companies that sell us painkiller drugs.
But the smoke? Not nearly as bad for your lungs as cigarettes -- which remain legal (and should remain legal), and kill 350,000 a year.

it is amazing that when the people in a so-called democracy vote a law in, that the very politicians that are supposed to represent them turn around and fight tooth and nail to do everything possible to undermine said law in as many dickish ways as possible. This post constitutes a "litany", and it's just one week's news...

Correlation is not causation - but this is something i've been saying for a long time. Hell, if you got every person who drank alcohol to do cocaine instead, there'd be less deaths and life expectancy would increase. But society is not nearly up to the level of understanding that. Society's kind of retarded, that guy.

remember when Obama the liar wrote a letter to the justice department, then claimed that there would be no more raids on dispensaries in states where it is legal? I remember the Obamicons arguing with me at length - some of the most intelligent people i know - that this would be what happened. I knew he was full of shit then, just as I did before he was ever elected. Hopefully with OWS others have finally realized this.

And people are still going to tell me Obama is about positive Hope and Change? Yes, he is -- for some very small groups. For other groups? Take rights away.
Remember when Obama wanted to "leave it to states rights" for gay marriage? That was his way of saying he didn't support gay marriage, but would simply let the states be discriminatory instead of directly being discriminatory himself.
But states' rights for medical marijuana? Suddenly they're not so important. Obama and his doublespeak.

The DEA is full of shit, and is a terrorist organization forcing sick americans to suffer for the close-minded ideology of previous generations.

First DC, then MD. Slowly the East coast is joining the West coast. How long are the feds gonna waste our money prosecuting us for what 10% of people do? This is a minority as large as the gay population.

This is a pretty big deal. Just last year the DEA was saying "marijuana has no scientifically proven medical value".
They're no longer able to issue such statements, as the consensus is so strong they can no longer deny scientific fact.

Great new study confirming what many of us already knew - marijuana is medicine, and the government is causing people to die by preventing its use. It's free, and poor people who can't afford insurance can simply grow a weed that may save them. The corporations don't want that.
