Give this UK-based online music site a try (assuming you can - the usual music industry geographic restriction nonsense applies). It lets you listen to whatever you want just like Spotify does, but without the subscriptions and restrictions. The music is cheap too and there are regular special offers - try entering code "20X20" to get all tracks for 20p each for the next 20 hours, for example. Note: This code gives me a music credit if you sign up, but I'd recommend the site even if it didn't :-)

Very interesting analysis from EFF adds depth and colour to the case (see yesterday's Ars Technica link for details).

I usually do a best-of playlist for SXSW but this year I've not found the monster download of all the tracks. However, as second-best, NPR has seleted their top 100 tracks (that's 10% of the festival) and put them online as streaming continuous-play radio.

Huge missed opportunity to replace RealMedia with open formats and proprietary players with HTML 5. Really sad that the formats they've chosen are ones controlled by corporations rather than open to community software development. It means that instead of being able to use anything to access BBC content, we all have to wait for Adobe or Microsoft to bless us with a working player.

Fascinating viewing, especially the blatant lies by the BBC Director General about iPlayer Downloads being available for Mac & Linux.

Third new station at SomaFM - I seem to have a lot of these artists in my library already so I suspect this one will be a hit, but they now have so many that's it's hard to choose.

SomaFM has been a favourite for ages, mainly Groove Salad, but they have some new stations available. This one seems to track my usual playlist very closely.

And the Touch (Apple has a name problem with this platform). It's done with a quicktime stream. No idea if there is any DRM. Seems to work perfectly, it even rotates with the device.

"So DRM is pointless for both groups, and hence pointless for everyone. Moreover, it not only inconveniences the law-abiding majority, it locks some of them out entirely, in the case of Mac and GNU/Linux users."

It has taken a long time for questions of integrity to be raised over "reality TV" despite "The Truman Show". I wonder how long it will take for equal questions of trust over iPlayer giving a vendor a new monopoly?
