Gruber asks, "Why would an engineer from Nokia post something like this?" My guess is that (a) he's a security researcher rather than an engineer, and (b) Nokia has a vested interest in ensuring that their new phone OS partner isn't doing dumb things that will prevent Nokia from driving revenue through the store.

Unbelievable. On all sides. That Allard could have believed that he could position a tablet without an email client; that the Courier team really thought that they could squash a bunch of prototype technologies together in one unit at the last minute; and that Microsoft could have let Allard walk out the door this way.

I'm not surprised that Andy Lees misjudged the reception of the iPhone 4s (over 1 million preorders and counting). This is the same guy who felt, when I was a Microsoft intern back in 2001, that the carriers had such an unbreakable stranglehold over the market that you had to bend your device to their will, at the expense of the user experience.

Useful-looking tool from Microsoft that enumerates the attack surface of a Windows machine. Run it before and after an application installation to validate that the application isn't unnecessarily endangering you. Cool.

I somehow missed this: Windows Live is being migrated to WordPress.com. And their numbers aren't that hot for a blogging platform: about 300,000 live blogs, or about 250,000 that aren't done by employees out of Redmond.
