Management insists that employees must to follow company policy when accessing and using social media at work. He told a story of how the RBC Facebook page had 10,000 friends. But after an email from HR was sent around, stating that it was OK to use social media in the office, the number of friends almost immediately dropped to 4,000. Coincidence?

The success of the RBC wiki is due to having a team that supports it, showcases its features and content, and which moves quickly from pilot to production. And they’re doing all of that while using the wiki. Hanlon mentioned that what’s missing is:

Broader business uptake
Training
Designated content curators
Greater cultural pull
A larger community of practice

Rather than delaying it any longer, I took the last 30 minutes to finally create a quick Government 2.0 Best Practices Wiki for the social media community (working in or with the public sector) to collaboratively work on. I’m planning on filling it out over the next few days with more information, however I figured I’d save myself some work by opening the doors early and letting you start filling it in and/or fine-tuning the layout.

Its popularity has grown and it is fast becoming an on-line resource of first preference for R&D employees, seeking knowledge pertinent to their job role. Pfizerpedia now has over 2500 contributors creating over 5000 content pages. More than 3000 pages have received at least 1000 hits each. In total, there have been over 11 million page views and approximately 100,000 page edits since it was set up.
