he SunVolt MAX Solar Power Station uses sunlight to simultaneously charge up to three mobile electronic devices with outlet-like speed on a clear day. Boasting a larger and more powerful monocrystalline solar panel than our standard model, a larger lightweight water-resistant carrying case, and Gomadic's efficient power regulation technology, the SunVolt MAX Solar Power Station means you'll never lose power again, even when you're off-grid for extended periods of time. With 50% more charging power than the standard SunVolt, the SunVolt MAX is perfect for those who need maximum portable charging power.

You can even purchase additional high capacity lithium polymer batteries with your SunVolt system to store excess energy.

Official figures indicate that 25% of the power generating capacity of new solar plants in 2011 went unused because the plants could not maintain a connection with the electric grid.

Applied Research Associates (ARA) are experimenting with carinata seeds, which are playing a big part in ARA’s plan to produce a low-cost, high-grade jet fuel.

ARA and Chevron Lummus Global (CLG) are partnering with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and Agrisoma Biosciences Inc., a Canadian firm with a growing presence in the biofuel feedstock market, to evaluate 100 percent drop-in ReadiJet biofuel.

“We’re creating a better biofuel,” Baxley said. “It is easy to make biodiesel that you can run in your tractor, but to put the fuel in an airplane, like an F-22 or an F-16, that meets military specs is what we have been working on.”

LDK had an operating loss of $172 million in the second quarter and three straight quarters of losses before that. Because it is a major employer in the poor province of Xinyu, the local government stepped in to pay off $80 milllion in debt a few months ago. As Jeff St. John wrote, "Looks like the Chinese model of solar capitalism has entered a new and, at least for its global competitors, a more troubling phase."

It gets worse. LDK just sold a 20% stake in the troubled firm to Heng Rui Xin (HRX) Energy, a Chinese state-run entity, for approximately $23 million, according to a report in Bloomberg. According to the report, Heng Rui Xin is paying a 21 percent premium to LDK's Friday closing price of 71 cents. The owner of Heng Rui Xin is Hi-Tech Wealth Investment and Developing Co. and state-owned Asset Management Co., with a 40 percent stake. LDK calls HRX "a PRC company invested by privately owned and state-owned funds" on its website.

The World Bank is calling for governments to channel the 1 trillion dollars they now pay for fossil fuel subsidies into boosting “green” infrastructure to cut down on carbon emissions.

In its latest report on global warming, “Turn Down the Heat”, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim warns that major coastal areas like Mozambique and Bangladesh are likely to face major disruptions over the coming century, if warming continues on its present course. Rising ocean temperatures, which are melting vast regions of the polar icecaps, are also blamed for the increased violence of hurricanes and cyclones.

“I think Hurricane Sandy has brought the issues of climate change much more into focus, especially here in the United States, but I think elsewhere as well,” Kim told reporters.

The scientific “Turn Down the Heat” report was prepared by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Climate Analytics.

Tim Worestal: "There is a very good argument, one that I certainly fully support, that carbon should be taxed and other things, like labour, or investment, should have their taxes reduced by the same amount. For this would be replacing taxes on good things, like jobs, with taxes on a bad thing, pollution.

The other thing about a carbon tax is that it won’t actually raise much money. And the more effective it is at solving the perceived problem, emissions, the less money it raises.

I tend to think that such a tax is not imminent: but I’m certainly happy to be pleasantly surprised at some point."
