Here’s a little trick to format XML in BBEdit and vi.
BBEdit can format markup, but none of its built-in styles do what I want. Like so often when working with XML, the awesome libxml library helps out. It comes with the xmllint command line utility, which formats XML in a way I like.
In BBEdit, I use it as a UNIX Filter by storing the following script as xmllint.sh in the $HOME/Library/Application Support/BBEdit/Unix Support/Unix Filters/xml directory.
+#!/bin/sh
XMLLINT_INDENT=$'\t' xmllint --format "$*"

Visualizing an individual's editing history in Wikipedia
To investigate how participants in Wikipedia allocate their time, we have created a visualization technique, the Chromogram, that can display very long textual sequences through a simple color coding scheme.

Using chromograms we found a set of characteristic editing patterns in the online encyclopedia. In addition to confirming known patterns, such as reacting to vandalism events, the visualization reveals a distinct class of organized systematic activities that help shed light on self-allocation of effort in Wikipedia. For more details about the Chromogram technique and our results, please refer to our Interact 2007 paper and our more extensive technical report.

This is the home page of the open-source scholarly paper metadata crawler Kairos. This focused crawler crawls likely conference and workshop web sites in a proactive manner, visiting the sites around the event dates, so as to acquire the metadata and links to any open-access scholarly documents in a timely manner. Since Kairos acts proactively, new scholarly work can be available for use by other scholars with a relatively short delay between publication and ingestion to the DL. This work is significant, cutting down the delay that researchers need to wait before new scholarly work is available in search engines.

This reference documents the A.nnotate API used for controlling A.nnotate from another application. The API allows you to list documents and notes and upload new documents. You can also integrate your existing user authentication system with A.nnotate user accounts, allowing you to automatically log in users from your current system. Sample code and examples are available in PHP and Java for accessing the API remotely; the HTTP REST web service could also be used from other programming languages.

A.nnotate is an online annotation, collaboration and indexing system for documents and images, supporting PDF and MS Office formats. Instead of emailing different versions of a document back and forth you can now all comment on a single read-only copy online. Unlike online word processors, the document is displayed in high quality with fonts and layout just like the printed version. It is easy to use and runs in all common web browsers, with no software or plugins to install.

Once common feature in Social Network site is to recommend people connection. e.g. "People you may know" from Linkedin. The basic idea is very simple; if person A and person B doesn't know each other but they have a lot of common friends, then the system should recommend person B to person A and vice versa.
