"The creator of an iPhone app used to manipulate and add effects to photos is under fire for using a racial slur in the name of a special effect.

"The app, called 'Picture Effect Magic,' is available in a free and paid version in the Apple App Store. The latest version is 1.8 and has a post date of June 10, 2011.

"In the list of possible photo effects is one called, '54 N****r-brown.' In selecting this effect, it makes the image a brownish tint. In the list, it is near other similar effects that make the image purple, blue or warm."

What can we say? Shouldn't have started none, wouldn't have been none.--AJP

"He said: 'There is no question in America that you could ever have a dog called the N-word.'
"'It's no good saying that it is the Latin word for black or that it didn't have the meaning that it does now - you just can't go back, which is unfortunate.'"

"'Telling the accurate story of what happened and putting the positive correction is something that this region has a responsibility to do,' activist Michael Harris said. The trouble is getting someone to take responsibility for fixing an error committed during an era when the N-word was commonly used. The Army Corps of Engineers, which had the graves relocated, says it handed over control of the gravesite to El Dorado County. The county says it welcomes a solution from the Corps."

"Another recent case involving the school system in the state of Ohio is that of Kelley Williams-Bolar, the woman who was sent to jail for sending her kids to the "wrong" school district. This case relates to the racial issues at Richmond Heights in part because the same school districts that will keep Kelley Williams-Bolar's kids out are the ones that will gladly ship a black boy out of the inner city so he can serve them on the basketball court. So, in other words, black people are rewarded for being athletic and in many cases punished for being intelligent."

"What is a word worth? According to Publishers Weekly, NewSouth Books' upcoming edition of Mark Twain's seminal novel 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' will remove all instances of the 'n' word -- I'll give you a hint, it's not nonesuch -- present in the text and replace it with slave. The new book will also remove usage of the word Injun. The effort is spearheaded by Twain expert Alan Gribben, who says his PC-ified version is not an attempt to neuter the classic but rather to update it."

"Anyone who has spent time debating politics on the Internet is aware of the corollary to Godwin's Law that says once a comparison to Nazis or Hitler is made, a discussion is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically 'lost.' Allow me to propose another precept: once a comparison to 'the N word' is made, a discussion is finished and whoever mentioned the comparison has 'lost.' Call it Winfrey Harris' Law. There must be a way to describe the real negative impact of a slur without resorting to lazy analogies that rank one oppression against another and diminish the unique histories of all involved."

"Guerlain’s used the N word – nègre in French - came during made a midday news bulletin on Thursday, when he described the creation of the Samsara perfume - blend of sandalwood and jasmin inspired by his first wife.

“'For once, I worked like a nigger,' he told the interviewer. 'I don’t know if niggers really worked that much.'

"Guerlain’s apology, in the form of an email, expressed regret that his words might damage the company’s image and pointed out that he is no longer a shareholder or employee of the company."

"On Friday, she ordered two large pizzas for delivery from her local Domino's in Apex, NC. After the driver left, her ten-year-old niece brought the receipt to her attention. The receipt read "N*GGERS DON'T TIP".

On its own, this would be reprehensible and disgusting, particularly considering that a young child was exposed to such vile and hateful language. But what happened to Robinson after the initial attack compounded the atrocity. Robinson promptly reported this action to the manager, who was responsible enough to fire the culpable employee. Instead of accepting fault for their actions and moving on, the former employees continued their campaign of hatred by calling Robinson to further demean and intimidate her

"We’re not trying to argue that “pinches negros,” altogether, is a benign statement. Our issue revolves more about the implication that “negro” is somehow akin to the word “nigger” or that it is in anyway a word wrought with hate."
