Forewarned is forearmed.--AJP "'The Response' has generated a squall of controversy, much of it centered around Fischer, the AFA’s Director of Analysis for Government and Public Policy. Fischer is perhaps best known for warning the people of America that President Obama 'wants to give the entire land mass of the United States of America back to the Indians. He wants Indian tribes to be our new overlords.' But it was Fischer’s article 'Native Americans Morally Disqualified Themselves from the Land' published last winter that has generated the harshest criticism for its blatant racism against the Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island."

"Imagine a bargain hunter's shock and dismay when responding to an ad on Craigslist listing a bunch of possessions for sale and then receiving an email announcing that gay people, Muslims, and [undcumented residents] aren't allowed to purchase the wares. Read it for yourself.

"Our tipster, who lives in the D.C. area, responded to an ad on Craigslist, which has since been taken down, expressing interest in one of the items for sale. He received this mass email response peppered with casual racism and homophobia. I've highlighted the worst parts, but the whole thing is really amazingly awful."

"In recent years, Black Pride has scaled back. This year’s event was smaller because the organization plans to host year-round events, but also due to less funding. Meanwhile, Capital Pride has grown in size and demographics.

"So is there still a need to host a black pride event?

“'I don’t see it as a separate thing as some people do,' Fowlkes says. 'But obviously, whether I felt the need or not, 300,000 people come every year to [black] pride' celebrations around the country."

"Yet, Fowlkes says he still doesn’t see many people of color attending the Capital Pride festival along Pennsylvania Avenue."

"It is believed to be the first time Mr Odinga had made such comments. Mr Kuria told the BBC's Network Africa programme that he did not know why Mr Odinga had made the statements in a speech to his constituency in the Nairobi slum of Kibera. He said most African leaders who condemned homosexuals were trying to gain political leverage but he said Mr Odinga was already popular so his statement was 'surprising'."

"However, an alternative could soon be at hand. Ade is helping to resurrect a religious refuge for himself and his friends. He is part of the team restarting House of Rainbow, the country's only gay church, which was forced to close in 2008 after a witch-hunt stirred by exposés in local newspapers.
"The Rev Rowland Jide Macaulay, the gay minister who founded the church, is leading the comeback even though he remains in self-imposed exile in London."

"Pang Khee Teik, the co-founder of a Malaysian sexual rights awareness group, called the camp 'outrageous.'

"'If we don't do anything to stop the rot of homophobia ... I worry it may get worse,' he said. Gay Malaysians say they face discrimination from government policies such as a law that makes sodomy punishable by 20 years in prison. The law is seldom and selectively enforced, but some states also impose jail terms for public cross-dressing."

"I think what bothers me about this is that neither side can see the sun through the trees. Look, the word f@ggot cannot be justified. Getting into a game of semantics leaves everyone a loser. It is equally wrong for anyone White, inject a racial slur into the conversation. No White person will ever know what it feels like to be called a nigger, and all analogy accomplished was to level the playing field and remind the Black person of the racial hierarchy. Why is it that marginalized groups cannot seem to understand that using oppression to fight oppression simply leads to - you guessed it - more oppression. Everyone loses when we take this approach. The bottom line is that White people don't get to invoke the word nigger as a teaching lesson, and no straight person gets to say the word f@ggot and get away with it. It all seems pretty simple to me, the moment one stops focusing on semantics."

"The study also indicates that Brazil is the world leader in the murders of homosexuals. In the United States, 14 murders of transvestites were reported in 2010, while in Brazil there were 110 murders. Furthermore, the risk of a homosexual being killed violently in Brazil is 785 percent greater than in the United States.

"According to Mott, the increase is the result of an increase of violence and impunity. 'There is an overall increase in murders. Besides that, fewer than ten percent of the murderers are sentenced and imprisoned. Currently, the visibility of gays is greater, since many are coming out and that provokes an increase of intolerance.'”

"The Anti-Homosexuality Bill was introduced in 2009, only a month after a seminar with American ministers about 'curing' homosexuality and the dangers of 'the gay movement.' Last year, an evangelical Christian from Missouri, Lou Engle, held an event in Uganda at which the bill was promoted (though after he left to travel home, he says). But Uganda, a poor and heavily Christian nation of 35 million with a large American missionary community, has long held its own conservative views on sexuality. Mr. Ssempa says his movement is about African culture, and while the United States has continued to debate its own societal values, similar conversations are happening here."

"The guard's response is part of a civil rights complaint filed Wednesday on behalf of Cortez-Reyna and 12 others. It alleges systemic abuse and neglect of gay and transgender immigrants while in custody at facilities owned or contracted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Chicago-based Heartland Alliance National Immigrant Justice Center filed the action with the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and Inspector General's Office.

"Alliance leaders said the allegations go beyond mistreatment by a few guards. They include blanket policies against the immigrants such as the rule at Theo Lacey that keeps all gay and transgender immigrants confined to their cells for 22 hours and the practice at a Santa Ana, Calif., jail that denies hormone treatments to transgender immigrants."
