Great great post on why you cannot just take performance tips as facts. You must constantly evaluate to see if they are *still* facts. Most perf hacks depend on the browser's existing behaviour which are constantly being changed for the better.

An experiment in using discretionary ligatures to show the time differently. Very interesting to see fonts compete with SVG in a sense to provide accessible yet beautiful representations of data (like Chartwell: http://tktype.com/chartwell.php). Fonts do mask most of the magic that happens, which means you do not have the ability to edit them. But SVG has really verbose & incomprehensible syntax.
