Another company called Morph Labs is taking advantage of the fact that Amazon.com has sought to promote its cloud provisioning and management APIs (application programming interface) as a standard. There are two open source efforts to implement these APIs to allow the creation of private clouds: Eucalyptus and OpenNebula. Morph Labs has an offering based on the Amazon APIs called mClouds that adds tools for infrastructure management, deployment and monitoring. The result of these offerings is that if your application needs cloud-like scalability, but for a variety of reasons you cannot just use the public cloud, you get a private cloud very quickly.
