Also welcome news from Google, especially for privacy advocates: "Google has begun rolling out an encrypted version of its search engine in an effort to protect Internet users from having their searches sniffed by others on their network. The new version of Google is SSL encrypted and located at https://www.google.com. Like many of Google's other changes, it's being rolled out slowly to all users who choose to search securely."

Last week, Google announced some powerful new search features for accessing and visualizing public data (and more importantly, trends in public data). The future potential of these features is even more exciting.

Yet another visual search engine. This one initially intrigued me more than others (the results were more striking), but the cube is difficult to manipulate and the relevancy or ranking of the results is unclear. Still, a search for "edtechlife" turned up a few visual surprises. :)

"Search the conversations of the Web": This is a simple and cool search tool put together by Steve Hargadon (founder of Classroom 2.0 and Support Blogging). It can be useful in tracking conversations on social networking sites (like ning), social microblogging sites (like Twitter), and others.

Amazingly, this also sat open in my browser for nine days! I installed it on my iPhone and haven't even tried it yet... and now it's the middle of the night and Clark's sleeping in the next room, so I'm not trying it now. But... I wanted to share it here. This iPhone app allows you to search by voice (instead of typing in search terms). I suspect this is at least in part a product of technology that has come out of the GOOG-411 project. :)
