"Aviva Gibbs, the communications director for Illinois U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-5th), took this picture of a graffiti art stencil of former governor and Ravenswood resident Rod Blagojevich. These stencils popped up around Chicago after Johnny Law knocked on Blago’s door.

"But Gibbs says she took this picture in North Carolina while looking for a place to eat barbecue. North Carolina!"

"For a small cohort, though, nothing was more serendipitous than a fresh, full-train piece rolling into your station. Once inside the subway car, we’d examine the curlicues and runes of the walls to see which writer was affiliated with what clique, and judge whose swooping tags were most easeful and clean. Some of us toted around black journals bought at Pearl Paint, copying known tags while developing our own, most of which stayed between covers."
