Video/Audio: Values Voter Summit, featuring right-wing religious extremists, Paul Ryan, a video message from Mitt Romney, and assorted GOP/Tea Party legislators in what may be the most bizarre right-wing political event to date next to Rick Perry's Dominionist "Response" rally...

Aug. 10, 2012: "Barton has been debunked for years by Chris Rodda, Rob Boston, and other defenders of separation of church and state, but this time it was conservative Christian historians and theologians who led the charge. Barton has been controversial, even in conservative Christian circles, for his extreme politicization of religion and more recently for his partnership with the apostles and prophets of the New Apostolic Reformation and with Glenn Beck...

According to Chris Rodda, the inaccurate Founding Fathers' quotes promoted by Barton have been repeated on the floor of the U.S. House and Senate. He has been publicly endorsed and shared the stage with numerous politicians including Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, and Marco Rubio. His revisionist history can now be found on the websites of Religious Right and Tea Party groups across the nation, with many marketing his media..."

April 23, 2012: "Most Republicans are smart enough not to openly admit that they think America’s social safety net is unconstitutional, even if they do misunderstand our founding document to prohibit Medicare or Medicaid or Social Security.

...delegates to the Utah GOP convention voted to force a primary that will determine whether Republicans in one of the nation’s reddest states are still satisfied with vague generalities — or whether they would prefer a senator who openly and proudly proclaims that it is unconstitutional for the United States to provide health care to children... Lijenquist joins at least four other Republican senate candidates who believe the Constitution requires America to drown most of its protections for workers, consumers and the elderly in a bathtub..."

The U.S. Christian Right’s most recent efforts are documented in the new report Colonizing African Values: How the U.S. Christian Right is Transforming Politics in Africa.

The report authored by Rev. Dr. Kapya Kaoma, an Anglican priest originally from Zambia, investigates the Pat Robertson-founded American Center for Law and Justice, the Mormon-led Family Watch International, and the Roman Catholic Human Life International, as well as a network of Christian dominionists known as the Transformation Movement or New Apostolic Reformation. The report details ACLJ’s efforts to influence the constitution-writing process in Zimbabwe and Kenya, and the anti-LGBT and anti-reproductive justice activities of the other groups in such countries as Uganda, Malawi and Zambia." Aug. 17, 2012: "From the Council Of Conservative Citizen's statement of principles:

'We believe in the traditional family as the basic unit of human society and morality, and we oppose all efforts by the state and other powers to weaken the structure of the American family through toleration of sexual licentiousness, homosexuality and other perversions, mixture of the races, pornography in all forms, and subversion of the authority of parents.'

Aug. 17, 2012: "Dana Milbank writes in a column in today’s Washington Post, 'Hateful speech on hate groups, that the Southern Poverty Law Center 'should stop listing a mainstream Christian advocacy group alongside neo-Nazis and Klansmen.' He’s talking about the Family Research Council, which he describes as 'a mainstream conservative think tank founded by James Dobson and run for many years by Gary Bauer' which 'advocates for a full range of conservative Christian positions, on issues from stem cells to euthanasia.' Going further, Milbank says it’s “reckless” for groups like SPLC to designate FRC as a 'hate group.”'

While reading all of this, I couldn’t help but wonder why a 'mainstream conservative think tank' would defend a bill in Uganda that would put gays and lesbians in prison for life and put them to death for “serial” offenses, among other things..."

April 18, 2012: "Barber is the Vice President of Liberty Counsel Action and an Associate Dean and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University School of Law, and also serves on the board of the SPLC-certified anti-gay hate group, Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, and is the Policy Director for Cultural Issues at Concerned Women for America.

Last month, in direct contradiction to FBI published statistics, Barber falsely claimed there is “no evidence” of mass anti-gay violence but the “specter” of violence against gay people has forced churches into the closet.

Last year, Barber said that “at the heart of modern Liberalism is rebellion toward God, is hatred for God,” and also claimed that gays know in their hearts that there is no such thing as two mothers or fathers and that all they really want is to destroy the American family.

Also last year, Barber said gays are terrorists and want to put conservatives in jail...'

July 14, 2011: 'Tea Party Nation’s Rich Swier, who beefed up the group’s record of racism with a March 28 blog stating, “The White Anglo-Saxon Protestant [WASP] population in America is headed for extinction,' weighed in last month on threats from another perceived internal enemy, the LGBT community. Proclaiming the campaign against anti-gay bullying a 'sham' and comparing LGBT people to drug addicts, Swier wrote, 'This is not bullying. It is peer pressure and it is healthy'...

Tea Party Nation, if nothing else, is consistent. Its 2010 convention featured a parade of divisive figures, include the viciously anti-gay head of Vision America Rick Scarborough, former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore (who was impeached for refusing to remove a 2½-ton statue of the 10 Commandments he’d had installed in the state judicial building ...), and hard-line anti-immigration politician Tom Tancredo."

March 15, 2011: "When Louis Brandeis called state legislatures “laboratories of democracy,” he couldn’t have imagined the curious formulas the Tea Party chemists would be mixing in 2011, including: a bill just passed by the Utah legislature requiring the state to recognize gold and silver as legal tender; a Montana bill declaring global warming “beneficial to the welfare and business climate of Montana”; a plan in Georgia to abolish driver’s licenses because licensing violates the “inalienable right” to drive; legislation in South Dakota that would require every adult to buy a gun; and the Kentucky legislature’s effort to create a 'sanctuary state' for coal, safe from environmental laws.

In [D.C.], the whims of Tea Party lawmakers have been tempered, by President Obama and Senate Democrats, but also by House Republican leaders who don’t want the party to look crazy. Yet these checks often do not exist in state capitols..."
